Using your insurance
- Registered with
- Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Registration number
- RSW #848657
Many extended health plans cover therapy with a Registered Social Worker. To check yours:
- Look for “social worker,” “RSW” or “mental health practitioner” in your benefits booklet or app.
- Note your yearly maximum and whether there’s a per-session limit.
- Ask whether you need a doctor’s referral (some plans ask for one).
Billing
We don’t offer direct billing. Your receipts include everything you need to submit a claim to your insurance provider.
Cancellation policy
Appointments need at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee, because that time is reserved for you and short-notice cancellations are hard to fill. Exceptions may be made for major emergencies, at our discretion.
FAQ
Questions about fees and insurance
Here’s what people often ask. If you still have a question, send us a message.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. Some insurance plans ask for one, so check yours.
Can I use my partner’s benefits?
Often, yes, if you’re listed as a dependant on their plan.
Can I claim therapy on my taxes?
Often, yes. Fees paid to a social worker in Ontario count toward the medical expense tax credit (opens in a new tab), minus anything your insurance already paid back. An accountant can tell you what you’ll get back.
How do I pay for sessions?
You pay after each session, and you’ll get a receipt with everything your insurer needs to reimburse you. We don’t direct bill.
Do you offer reduced fees?
If cost is a barrier, ask about a sliding scale. We can talk it through on your free 15-minute call.
What if my plan doesn’t cover social workers?
Some plans only list psychologists or psychotherapists. Ask your insurer whether they’ll accept receipts from a Registered Social Worker. If they won’t, you can still claim the fees as a medical expense on your tax return.
