What it can feel like

Does any of this sound familiar?

A fluffy dog rests its head on a stack of books on the couch.
  • I love my baby, but I still don’t feel like myself.
  • My mind won’t switch off, even when the baby finally does.
  • I keep replaying the birth, or avoiding anything that reminds me of it.
  • Scary thoughts pop into my head, and I’m afraid to say them out loud.
  • Every month of trying to conceive feels heavier than the last.
  • I’m snapping at everyone, then drowning in guilt.

None of this means you’re failing.

It means you’re carrying a lot, and you deserve support with it. This is exactly what we help with.

What sets us apart

Specialized care from someone who gets it

Our training and the way we work are shaped around pregnancy, birth and the early years, so you don’t have to explain the basics before you get support.

  • Perinatal mental health is our focus.

I hold the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International, and I keep learning through regular training with respected perinatal and trauma educators.

  • EMDR for birth and older trauma.

I’m an EMDRIA Certified Therapist with training in birth trauma. EMDR helps painful memories settle, without you having to retell every detail.

  • Therapy that fits around your baby.

Sessions are by secure video, so you can join from home without arranging childcare. Saturday appointments are available, so it’s easier to find a time that works.

Hi, I’m Nicole

I’m a Registered Social Worker based in Waterloo Region, and a mom too, so I know how disorienting the early months can be.

That’s a big part of why I started Nurtured Family Counselling, so parents have a place to talk openly about what they’re going through, without judgment or pressure.

Drawing on years of clinical experience, professional training and real-life perspective, I help parents make sense of what they’re carrying, from trying to conceive through pregnancy, birth and the early years, along with the old experiences that can resurface along the way.

My style is warm, practical and down to earth. We’ll go slowly when we need to. And we’ll work toward you feeling more like yourself, or meeting a new version of yourself you actually like. I look forward to meeting you.
